Quark Mod Modrinth: How to Read Version Labels Correctly

Quark release pages can show several versions for different Minecraft generations. The safest way to choose a file is not by “latest” alone. Match the Minecraft version first, then confirm the loader and dependency requirements before you download or update anything.

Read compatibility before the version number

A recent Quark file may target Minecraft 1.21.1 and NeoForge, while an older line targets Forge on an earlier Minecraft version. Installing the newest file into an older pack is still a mismatch.

Treat compatibility metadata as a gate: if the game version or loader differs from your instance, stop and choose another build.

Match Zeta on modern versions

Quark versions from 1.20.1 onward use Zeta. The dependency also needs a compatible Minecraft and loader line. Updating Quark without checking Zeta can create a startup failure even if Quark itself is the correct game version.

Keep both files together in your change log so future updates are easy to audit.

Use a test profile for updates

Duplicate your instance before replacing a stable mod file. Test the copy, open a temporary world and review logs before updating the profile that contains important saves.

This is especially useful when a point release changes recipes, tags or module defaults.

Do not use source archives as normal mod files

A repository source ZIP is useful for reviewing source code, but it is not normally the same artifact as a compiled mod JAR intended for the loader.

If your goal is gameplay, use a loader-ready release file that states compatibility with your game version.
